French based Folamour is most likely our hottest tip for 2017. Our first encounter with his driving luscious vibes was his highly limited and much sought after Oyabun EP. In particular the Hip-Hop inspired Rue D’Amsterdam was what really caught our attention. Hit link to preview [ Rue D’Amsterdam ]. Since then we have kept a close eye on his every move, especially as those moves tend to be vinyl only and limited. In July we snapped up Noire & Blanche 001 – Fort Bellefluer and not just a few days ago Folamour – Shakkei landed on our desk…It was like Christmas morning aged 4 all over again…

New Music: Folamour - Shakkei [ Deep House ]

Shakkei is due to be released early next year, via All City Ireland records, and as we prepared to drop the needle it is fair to say our anticipation was nearing fever pitch. An intoxicating state of mind that got us thinking – what other artists over the years have ensnared us so? So here’s a quick run down: Blur – Parklife, Radiohead – Hail To The Thief, Chemical Brothers – Hey Boy Hey Girl, Daft Punk – Around The World, Fake Blood – Mars, Crookers – Day N Nite, Justice – Waters Of Nazareth (Erol Alkan Remix), Cropper – Forever, Nirvana – Smells Like Teen Spirit, Roy of the Ravers – Emotinium, Joy Orbison – Hyph Mngo, Julio Bashmore – Battle For Middle You, Oasis – Supersonic, War On Drugs – In Reverse, Bon Iver – Holocene, Alter Ego – Rocker, Soulwax – E Talking, Mylo – Drop The Pressure, Skrillex – Bangarang, Gorillaz – Feel Inc, Todd Terje – Inspector Norse, Denis Sulta – Nein Fortiate…and so many more, a list that could go on forever! Let us know yours in the comment section below. Anyway back to the subject in hand.

Folamour has had a prolific 2016, not only is Shakkei due early next year, but you can also find previews for two other collaborative EPs via his own label – Moonrise and FHUO France. Both of which are due anytime now, according to Juno at least. Of the three Shakkei is the standout, and like previous Folamour releases he combines a House Music aesthetic with what is now becoming a distinctive trademark level of musicality. This is House with a soul from an artist who clearly understands how to combine traditional musicianship with the needs of a modern dancefloor. Shakkei is both pleasant on the headphones and emphatic on a big system. Highly recommended.
